Sherrill House Serenity Garden

This courtyard garden for an urban Alzheimer’s care facility in Jamaica Plain, MA, measures 30 x 60 ft. and is the only outdoor space available for patients, families and staff. Challenging site conditions included a site surrounded by 6 story buildings, 15’ high brick walls and traffic noise.

Adjacent to the Emerald Necklace, the garden is designed using materials commonly found in New England gardens including bluestone paving, a water feature and a variety of familiar garden plants that provide seasonal interest. The garden also offers the opportunity for a short walk, social interaction and places of quiet conversation. Custom designed metal trellises connected to the existing concrete sunscreen support climbing roses and clematis.
