Houghton’s Pond Boathouse

Located in Milton, MA, Houghton’s Pond is part of the 7,000 acre historic Blue Hills Reservation owned by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation. Twenty-four acres in size and up to 42 feet in depth, Houghton’s Pond is a spring-fed kettle hole pond formed by receding glaciers. Houghton’s Pond is one of DCR’s busiest seasonal properties attracting more than 7000 people, primarily urban families, to the beach on any given summer day. Michael Wasser Associates is providing landscape architecture services in association with the new bath house which includes new outdoor terraces, walks and universal access, planting and erosion control. The project also includes design of an interpretive walk along adjacent wetlands which will provide universal access to the beach from the parking lot. In addition, the site falls within several wetland resource areas and requires Conservation Commission review and permitting.

Construction to begin Fall 2010.
